Venice is probably the most beautiful and unique medieval city in the world.
Our voyage began in Venice. It was exciting as we set course on our voyage with a great view of Venice from our ship. The ship cruised in front of the Grand Canal and San Marco as people waved to us goodbye.
After our cruise, we stayed 2 extra nights in Venice to see it all and experience the Redentore festival: A medieval fireworks festival at the end of July to celebrate the end of the plague centuries ago.
The San Marco area of Venice is the center of it all. We stayed in a little charming Hotel Mercurio in San Marco, which was reasonable price and had windows to the canal where we could see the gondolas float by.

The aqua taxi can drop you off in your hotel.
Get ready to get lost when you walk to your hotel from San Marco like we did. This city is like a maze and maps are confusing.
Watch out for kamakaze pigeons in the Basilica di San Marco.
Gondolas everywhere looks like a Disney ride.
mmmmmmmmmm delicious pizza
Boats gather around infront of San Marco for the Redentore festival fireworks.

We got really lucky to see the city come alive with the festival and hope to return one day for carnival.
